- There was an old house in Derralea and it was built with clay and rushes.
The tatch was rushes cut and saved in the fields and the clay was got also in the land. The old houses had always a bed in the kitchen near the back wall.
Long ago they used to have a fire in the middle of the house and they used to take out the stones of the house to let out the smoke.
The people often heard of houses having no chimney nor no floor.
The chimney was made of mortar and stones
They used to have a bed in the corner called a pouch and they used to have curtains hung out-side(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
