  1. A week on after the setting of them, the farmers be digging the furrows and breaking the big lumps so as to have the clay smooth, and fine.
    After that they shake artificial manure over the ridges where the splits were put down in a row of three, then they cover the ridges with the smooth clay.
    After about three weeks the buds of stalks begin to peep above the clay.
    When the stalks are about a foot high the farmers spray them.
    First of all the farmers get a forty gallon barrel of water, and steep blue stone in the barrel of water for a night.
