- In former times there was no such a thing as factories on the country.
There was two weavers in my district about forty years ago.
Resin candles was the most common candles used long ago.
There was also candles made talloww used in my district.
Coopers were very common long ago.
Every smith used to make ploughs, turf spades and loys and gates were also made in former times.
Lime kilns were very common long ago and even still but not so plentiful.
Wheel making was carried on in every parish in former times.
Mostly all the clothes were dyed black. The black dye was made out of bog wood. First they would put it down on the fire and steep wool in it them it would be black in colour.
Basket making was always carried on in my district such as making baskets and creels.
Thatching was very common in olden times as all the houses was thatched.
