- Pat O'Keefe was a native of Meensquane, two miles from Abbeyfeale, on the left bank or Kerry side of the river Feale. he was of the respectable farming clan. Being a great patriot, he was obliged to leave Ireland to avoid a "trap" in 1867.
In tears and grief dear Pat O'Keefe
My muse has in a dream
Acquainted me your destiny
Was not beside that stream
That noon and dawn thro' Meensquane
With graceful flow serene
Glides by that spot where first you got
Your vigour herculean. In the days we date how hard is fate!
To say on Native soil,
There is no room, for pride of bloom
For the hardy sons of toil. Those alien ires that chased our sires
Still rankle at our core
And make us wail at every sail
That leaves our native shore. Our noble race, alas we trace
To every clime and shore
Where freedom's won beneath the sun,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
