children have the measles the people boil nettles, and give the liquid to them to drink. Rue is for curing anybody (that) who has a bad stomack. Plants and herbs are used for food for people and animals. Nettles are given to turkeys, and also used for measles. Long ago the people used to give thistles and nettles to the sows to eat. There are some plants which would poison people if they ate them. Whins and rushes are found growing in land which is not cultivated.
There are two kinds of weeds, both good, and bad. The most harmful weeds which grow on the farm are docks, thistles, ragweeds and nettles. They are harmful because they spread rapidly and reduce the fertility of the soil. Thistles mostly grow in corn, and in grazing fields. Nettles and docks grow along the ditches.
