  1. Shops were not common in the olden times. The people had to go to the towns to make purchases. Buying and selling was carried on after Mass and is still practiced. Good were bartered in the districk. Labour was given in exchange for goods.
    Whit Sunday is unlucky day for buying or selling. At Griffids cross and Jackies cross, there were hen markets held and is yet,
    Names for Coins.
    A shilling = A bob
    A sixpence = A tanner
    A pound = A quid
    Five shillings = A doller
    A penny = A wing
    (T) Two-pence = A juce.
    A crown, a sovereign and a half - sovering are gone out of use.
