    Weddings generally take place before or about Shrove Tuesday. Many people get married on Shrove. It is said to be very unlucky to marry in Lent. Money is often given as a fortune. Long ago, for a fortune stock or land was given.
    Sometimes a wedding feast is held in the house of the bride. Straw-boys used to visit the house of the bride. Sometimes they did damage, such as knock hay and corn stacks. The sang songs and lighted bon-fires.
    About a hundred years ago those who were attending the wedding raced home to the house of the bride on horse-back.
