   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   A man named A. Stoops, who was manager of the Fane Valley Creamery also wrote poetry. He wrote the following poem "One the death of a Comrade in The Boer War.

   Sentinels around were posted.
   Every noise was hushed and still
   Soldiers on their arms were sleeping
   In their tents on Waggon Hill.

   But a sound disturbed their slumber
   From the dark ravine below.
   Which be-spoke the treacherous stealing
   Of a cunning coward foe.

   In a moment all was bustle.
   Each one hurrying to the fray
   Soon each featring was marshalled
   In the battle's dread array.

   Boer and Briton joined the conflict
   In a deadly rifle fire
   Till at square the British bayonets
   Forced the foe-men to retire
