- In the olden times the Irish people took four meals each day, breakfast, dinner, tea, and supper. Breakfast was eaten usually at 9 o'clock, dinner at 1 o'clock, tea at 5 o'clock, and supper at 9 o'clock. The people always worked in the morning before having food.
The breakfast consisted of tea, hard oaten bread and butter, and sometimes porridge. Dinner consisted of potatoes, buttermilk, and salt. Tea consisted of hard oaten bread and tea. Supper consisted of oaten - meal porridge. Buttermilk was the chief drink of the people of olden times. The people sat around a table which was placed against the wall. The table was hung up when not in use. Oaten - meal bread was used, and it was baked on a griddle.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
