- Aghabog Catholic Church was built in 1812. At that time there was no road over from Corlick Cross. The wood &c. for the building was brought from Newry by carts & was unloaded on the road at Ned Mc. Phillips, Latnamard, Newbliss & carried across the fields. The land for the building was got from Murty Gavan & was called Murty's acre. The landlord - a Protestant - gave it rent - free so that the plots for graves have not to be paid for.
The church then had no tower. The altar was to the South & there were two doors one on the East & one on the West. There was a smaller altar of Our Lady. The seats were in a semi - circle round the altar like this: -
A Father Mc. Phillips of Tonagh (native of Tonagh) Latnamard Newbliss was first to say Mass there. There were two brothers both Priests & both ministered in their native Parish- Faisnéiseoir
