  1. We keep two horses on our farm. The farmer could not do without them. A horse can draw heavy loads. We do not rear any foals. They are very dear now. The horse is very fond of his master when he is good to him. When you want him to come for a drink you call "Pzo Pzo". The horse has to have shoes because if he had no shoes his feet would go out of shape and make it difficult for him to walk.
    Fowl.
We rear a good many hens. The hens eat potatoes and meal. Some of them are good layers and others not so good. Chickens are not so hard to rear as turkeys. When you want the hens to come for their food you call "Chuck Chuck, Chuck." Young turkeys are harder to rear than any other fowl because they are weak. When you want them to come for their food you call, "P, P, P,". The turkeys grow up very strong and big. You get eleven pence or a schilling per pound. There is great employment at Christmas getting them ready to send away to England.
