the purple hills of Brandon clothed in a mantle of heather. Then we can look to the east at the thickly wooded valley of Ballimurphy. From where we stand we can plainly see the Black Stare Mountains and its peak the Nine Stones.
Three hundred yards to the north from our house there is a little wood called the beech wood which at one time produced much of the native Irish fuel, but at present there is not any to be got in it. It is noted as an earth for rabbits and badgers and also a cover for feather game.
