- The only lime kiln I know is one belonging to Mr Dohney. It is situated a mile from the village of Tullaroan in the townsland of Brittas.
Lime kilns are very useful to burn lime. First of all the lime kiln is made of stones and mortar. There is a big hole made in the centre. There is a big blazing fire lit. Then the wall is lined inside with yellow clay. Then it is filled with lime stone and some culm, and is left lighting for about twenty four hours. The lime is drawn out through a hole in the bottom. There is more lime stone, and culm put in again, and so on. The fire must be kept on lighting all the time.- Bailitheoir
