The men in Scotland wrote the following lines home:-
"The Scotchmen here are all alive,

On the lofty hills of Scotland."
This letter was read aloud in the kitchen for the edification of a somewhat lazy farm labourer. The employer (father of the man in Scotland) promised the labourer 1/2 qr. of tobacco if he would follow the example of his son(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
