  1. 40. The Local Saint
St. Eidin is the local saint. Her grave is in Tuamna on the left bank of the River Shannon. There is a ford near her grave. The district Tuamna is named in memory of her. The derivation of the word "Tuamna" being tuam(b) an mná or tuam(b) an átha, In either case referring to this saintly woman who ruled her convent on the gently sloping hillside.
The lake, which may be seen from sketch map, in a widening of the Boyle River is named "Lock Eidin" in her memory also.
She probably belonged to the earliest order of nuns, those established by St. Brigid at Boyle. Very little is known of her locally.
There is a holy well in Tuamna near the ruins and monastery. The story is told that there was a trout in this well. People caught it and brought it into the house and placed it on the tongs, over some coals, to roast it.
