The wild birds which are most common in the district are the crow, seagull, magpie, lark, wren, yellow hammer, thrush, blackbird and snipe.
The crow and magpie build their nests on tree tops, the lark in heather or in meadows, the wren in a fence or bush, the thrush and blackbird also in a bush and the snipe in marshy land.
When the swallows fly high it is the sign of fine weather, but when they fly low it is a sign of bad weather. When the curlew is to be heard it is a sign of rain, but when the snipe is heard it is a sign of fine weather.- Bailitheoir
