When Jonny Browne came home from town his mother did not delay
She locked him up all in the room and gave him the cake and tay
When the father saw them all be dead distracted he did run
He wrung his hands and tore his hair and cried I am undone
She was but three days buried the truth to let you hear
When the Ghost of this vile woman to the farmer did appear
She said My state is dreadful for the crime that I have done
I have poisoned my stepdaughter likewise your lovely son
So let this be a warning to all you that are here
To pray to the Blessed Virgin and to her blessed son
To guard us from temptation an so all evil shun
