- There is about one acre of my farm sown under potatoes but some farmers do not sow an acre. The names of the potatoes sown in my district are epicures and flounders and they are the early crop. The main crop consists of the different varieties, Aran Banners, Kerr's Pinks, British Queens, and up to Dates.
The farmer manures the ground with grass manure before he turns it up. Sometimes the farmers plant the potatoes in drill, mostly they are sown in ridges. In former times the farmers used to turn the soil with a spade, but nowadays nearly all the farmers have their own ploughs and horses.
The first thing the farmer does is he ploughs the soil then he leaves it to dry for a few days before he plants the(continues on next page)- Collector
