- These are some of the rhymes that are used in games played in my district. The Priest of the Parish which is played in this manner.
A boy puts a wig upon himself and pretends to be priest. He then places the other boys in a row, calls one his "man jack" and says to each, what will you be? one answers, "I'll be black cap" another "red cap" and so on.
Priest: the priest of the parish has lost his considering cap. Some say this and some say that but I say my Man Jack!
Jack: Is it me sir?
Priest:Yes, you sir!
Jack: You lie sir!
Priest: Who then, sir?
Jack: Black cap
If Black cap does not say "is it me sir?", before the priest calls him he must pay a forfeit.Another game played is "Horns" or the "Painter" [?]. A boy gets a lump of soot(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
