- Bread in Olden DaysPeople in olden days used different food to what we use at the present day. It was more wholesome and nutritious.They grew all their food on their own land. They principally used the products of oats and potatoes. They brought the oats to the mill, and dried it, and prepared it for grinding. They worked there themselves, owing to this, they got the oats ground cheaper. The mills were plentiful that time than now. They made oat - meal cakes. They wet the meal with water, and baked it on a griddle before the fire. This was very hard bread, though strong and nourishing food. They eat this for the breakfast with new milk. They only ate three meals a day. The dinner consisted of potatoes and butter - milk.
