  1. Local Marriage Customs
The period of the year for getting married is after Easter and in.
The months and days that are said to be unlucky are May and July and the Fridays and Saturdays in them. In times homely people used to get married and go away to the towns. When they used to come home they used to let the birde in first to the house, for it was an old saying that if any of the people when in before it would be unlucky. It was a custom to salt middle aged girls so that they would be fresh for the next lime. In some places where money is plenty, it is given as dowry and in times gamely goods were given as a dowry. It is a custom to have a wedding feast in the house of the Bride. "Straw Boys" also visit the house and they are dressed up in straw and torn old clothes and have their faces painted. They also wish the Bride luck and they dance with the Bride and the Bridegroom.
They are then served with refreshments with the rest of the people.
