- The time in which most marriages take place locally is Shrove. The reason why most marriages take place in Shrove is because people cannot marry in Lent which follows Shrove.
May is thought an unlucky month to get married and Friday an unlucky day. Some people are of the opinion that if a marriage takes place during Shrove it is always a happy one.
