- The farm animals that we have at home are Cows, calves, sheep, horses, pigs and the domestic animals are a cat and a dog.
The cows have not got any particular names, but when they are being driven in from the field they are called "how how". The calves are called "suet suet" when they are being called in to drink.
The cow house is called a byre sometimes. It is a fairly large house with an Iron roof (There are many old stories connected with). There are certain places in it for each cow. The cows are tied with a chain around the neck to stakes. They are sometimes tied by the foot and horn if they are thieving. those tyings are made from a rope or a bag. They are home-made.
A branch or a horseshoe is often hung in the cow-house to bring luck on the cows.
There are many old stories connected with milking. If a person milked a cow on a fort the milk would get spild. It is correct to bless a cow always after you have her milked. If a person stole milk from a cow at night that person would also bring the butter.
The house in which the hose is kept is called a stable.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
