Some of the old people say that a slab similar to the present one was, in olden times, carried away and buried unknown to anybody by some unknown person. It was never again discovered, and the people who took it away were supposed to be enemies of the Church.
There is an outlet which runs into a larger drain from the welland the water thereof is cool and refreshing to drink. People who come long distances generally carry a bottle of water with them from the holy well. The water is said to restore the sight, as the sight of a child was said to be restored on one occasion , when it was rubbed on the eyes.
Stations are performed there from the first of May to the twenty first of June, Saint Ronan's feast day. It is said that the person who performs the ffirst station there on the first Friday in May gets cured of any disease from which he or she is suffering.
To perform a station it is necessary to go around the exterior of the wall fifteen times and say certain prayers at the cross. The Lord's Prayer, Salve Regina, and the Gloria are recited.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
