- The leipreachán is the only name known locally for a 'leipreachán'. No local person has ever seen him, but it is often they are heard talking of him. It is believed that he is about the size of a man's fist. He is supposed to be dressed all in red, red coat and cap, red breeches, red shoes and stockings. His usual occupation is said to be shoe-making. Old people say that whenever he is seen, he is always sitting on a mushroom making shoes.It is said he lives in fairy places, in 'lisses' or in furry hill and that he has his crock of gold hidden in these hills. People believe that anyone who catches him in supposed to keep his or her eyes on him while asking him for gold, for if once your eyes off him, he is gone forever.Written by
