- The Saint of this district is Saint Kieran, and he was buried in Clonmacnoise. When he came to Clonmacnoise it was not as important as it is now.
It is said that a man stole a cow from him, and that he threw a stone at him from the far side of the Shannon and the stone is on the Clonburn road.
He blessed a well in Clonburn, and it cures diseases. He had a monastery, and it was burned, and built several times. He also worked one miracle. There was a young man buried, and his mother was so sorry that Kieran raised him from the dead.
It is said that one of the bells that St. Kieran had is in one of the chapels in Athlone, and that another is at the bottom of the Shannon, and that it rings every seven years.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
