- [written by a standard V pupil]How the priest saw the witch.It was about one hundred years ago in the month of May that a clergy man near Rathdowney in Queen's County was awakened to attend a dying man in the parish. As it was yet dark when he left his house the good priest hurried on his way. He journeyed on slowly and when he had gone a good part of the way the grey dawn began to appear. When he had gone about three miles from his own house, his horse, which was a very brave animal, stopped and looked into a field. The Priest also looked in, and saw a little spectacle which made his blood run cold. It was the legs of a man from the hip down without head or body, trotting up the lane at a smart pace.
