    very little spirit and has more of a sullening than an intoxicating effect upon those who drink it. In this form it resembles coloured tea. The time is now at hand for the distillation, and the fire is again lighted, under the pot, which is in its position all the time. One of the barrels of wash as it is called in its present form, is put into the pot. It is now that the flanch of the boiler is of use and cannot be done without. A small bucket of paste, made from one way flour, is made and a layer of about an eight of an inch thick, is pasted on top of the flanch, of the pot. A strip of clean bag is cut about two inches wide, and pressed firmly down on the paste already laid on the flanch of the boiler. The same process is again gone through, until three layers of paste and three layers of bag have been pasted on top of the pot, a layer of paste being the last a wooden cover, about 1 1/2 inches thick and shaped exactly like the size of the pot is pressed firmly down in the layers of paste and bag and a couple of fairly heavy stones are placed on the outer edges so as to stick it into the paste. The reason for putting the bag mined with paste is chiefly to help in taking the cover off again without disturbing the flanch of the pot.
