there is a deep hush which is scarcely broken during the wake.
The rosary is said twice every night, at twelve o'clock, and at daybreak.
During the day there are not many present. Only a few friends, and near neighbours remain.
The corpse is coffined by the persons who have the burial in hand. At once the table on which the corpse had rested, or the bed, is turned on the side, and the canopy is pulled down and thrown on it. The table on which the candles stood is also laid on its side. They are not to be used in any way until they are washed.
The coffin being covered, it is borne to the hearse. The priest wearing a white band about his haT, and a wide white sash bandoleer fashion, leads off, followed by the hearse. The driver of the hearse wears the white band and sash also.
