- About a hundred years ago there was a lime kiln in Patrick O Daly's farm, another in James Hurley's farm in Ballinard. There was also one in Jerome Collin's farm of Coxestown. In olden times faggots of furze were used in burning the lime. Con Crowley "Malachy" was the last of the furze cutters for lime burning. He was famous at this work. He lived in Derrymillen in the house where William Driscoll now lives.
