- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)remained sitting near the fire. After a while a man came in and sat by the fire and spoke to Mickle. Then he pulled a big long pipe and some tobacco out of his pocket. Mickle gave a look at the man's feet and found instead of feet hoofs like a horse. The man offered him a smoke but he refused. There was heard a slap like thunder and the man vanished like a blue flame up through the thatch of the little house. There was a hole burned in the roof. Mickle got terrified and ran to the room where his wife a daughter slept and besought them to forgive him. From that day until the day he went in the grave he never put a pipe in his mouth.
