- Long ago there lived a chieftain who was called Lir. He was married to Aobh, a foster daughter of Bobh Dearg they had four children, a girl and three boys. The girls name was Fionnuala and the boys were called Aodh, Fiachra, and Conn. When the children were very young their mother died. Bobh Dearg was so concerned about the loss she was to Lir that he offered to give his second foster daughter Aoife in marriage to him, Lir married her.
Aoife was very devoted to these children at first. So beautiful were these children that no body seeing them could help loving them. Their grand-father Bobh Dearg had a special love for them. He Frequently visited them at their fathers Síoth in Armagh and on many occasions brought them away for long visits to his own Síoth at Lough Deirg Dheire on the Shannon. As time went on Aoife grew jealous of Lir's love for his children so she planned to get rid of them. One day she ordered a carriage and said she was bringing the children to see their grand-father.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
