    recognised fact that several people were buried withen the lios in the time of the famine.
    This lios was once surrounded by a deer park taking in 20 acres surrounded by a wall about 6 feet high, a portion of the latter still remains. Old people used to say there was a castle inside these walls. It is not recorded in history but it was supposed to be the deer hunting was in being. This stands to reason, for in the immediate vicinity three noblemen lived quite convenient. McAuliffe in Carrig Castle, Menton in Barley Hill and Copley the tyrant, in Gooseberry Hill. The foundation of each of these Castles is still in existence.
    With regard to the character and history of these men, to McAuliffe there was never any cruelty alleged. But, Menton well earned the name of tyrant.
