- The houses of long ago are much different to the houses of the present day.
All the houses of long ago were roofed with thatch composed of rushes and reed. The walls were mud, which the chimney was also composed of. There was usually a bed in the kitchen which was called the camp-bed.
There was a very small window at the end of the room which had never more than one small pane of glass.
There were also mud floors in those houses. Half doors wer very common long ago and are still very common in this district.
It was all turf the people burned formerly, they hardly ever heard of coal. They used bog deal splinters, dips and rushlights(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
