- About fifty years ago, the people weaved all their own thread. Every woman kept a spinning wheel in her own home.
At one time a family lived in Bolomore, sometimes the woman of the house, and her daughter would go out in the field, and drive in some sheep.
They cut the wool of he sheep, and cleaned it, and weaved it. Sometimes they made stockings, and at other times they made blankets.
My aunt Miss O Sullivan of Ducleagh, told me another story about candle-making.
She said a man who lived in the Fairfield, made his own candles. His name was Timothy Murphy.
He killed a cow and he melted the tallow over the fire. He had a tin shaped like a candle, and this tin was called the mould.
He put the wick in the middle of the mould and poured the tallow around the wick.
The wick was made of strong cotton there. He allowed the tallow to dry, and by this method he made all his own candles.- Faisnéiseoir
