- Long ago houses were much more plentiful in this district than they are present. Some of these houses are now in ruins. There are two ruined houses in Gloundine in which lived a Kiely family and an O Callaghan family. The Callaghans were known as the Johney Maurices and the majority of this family emigrated to America as their own farm was too poor and barren to support them. The townland of Gloundine is mentioned in many songs. One of them where its name is mentioned as follows
: -
From the slopes of Gloundine
To the borders of Beeing
Heath clad and cloud curtained domed like Sefeinn.
This song was composed by Daniel Scanlon who is a farmer and is living near Nadd.- Faisnéiseoir
