- Long ago people ate only three meals a day breakfast, dinner and supper. They got up at daybreak and worked until nine o'clock. For break-fast they had boiled Indian meal and sour milk. For dinner they had potatoes and a saucer of sour milk which was called "dip". For supper they had milk and a piece of oatcake. The woman of the house bought a half or a quarter pound of tea at Christmas and Easter. If there was a big family the table would be pulled out from the wall. Some people had a table that could be hung up when not in use. At Christmas a cow was killed and cured and the meat was supposed to last during the year round, therefore it had to be spared. Fish or vegetables were not eaten. On Easter Sunday morning people ate two or three eggs. Before cups were invented people used timber cups with timber handles(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
