The people helped them in their struggle. Timber huts were erected at Garrison (a townland adjoining Curraghs) where they lived throughout that trying time, until, eventually, the landlord gave in by re-instating those evicted tenants.
All the above-mentioned landlords were descendants of Cromwell's followers. The land was divided into farms under their guidance. The farmer had no claim and only held his farm until such time as he was unable to pay the rent.
