   Con, all smiles, wearing a red and black cap, surrounded by hundreds of wildly-cheering supporters while the "Brigadiers" chased home goal after goal against the hitherto invincible Bartlemy men. In the final, a few weeks later, Buttevant was narrowly defeated by Tower Street; but if the city men had not used a ball much under size in the second half the result might have been different. It certainly would have been better for the hurling prestige of Cork county if the "Brigadiers" instead of Tower Street had been allowed to play Tipperary subsequently in the "Knockane Field". It is pleasing to note that Denis Barrett, the captain of that famous combination now in the middle seventies, is still hale and hearty, straight as a lance, and without an ounce of superfluous flesh on his well-knit frame.
   Eight years later, under the captaincy of the late John Mackesy, Buttevant hurlers won a great victory by defeating Kilfinane in the final of
