This industry was carried on at Ballydaheen (Mallow) by the O'Connells. A field behind Mr Cronins shop was known locally as the rope walk and it seems that the twisting of the ropes took place here. The O'Connell family were originally from Limerick and there is no trace of their descendants in Mallow.
4. Basket-Making
This industry was carried on in Hume Lane by a man named Mc. Carthy. He gathered the necessary twigs from the Twig yard. Owing to the great amount and suitability of the twigs on the Navigation or the Killarney road it got the name of the twig. In fact they are still to be had in this district.
5. Wheel Making
This industry is carried on by Mr Dinan, Bridge Street. He cuts out the fellows with an adze which is a fairly up to date method or he bends a straight block by covering it with hot water and gradually forces it to a rounded shape. This industry is still carried on.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
