- Long ago it was generally believed that some days of the year were lucky whilst others were most unlucky.
On the Eve of St. Bridget's Day the first of February, people placed on the door knob or on the window sill some remnant of material to be blessed by St. Bridget.
Afterwards these are called Brath Breeda's and are used for curing pains and aches.
This was also a local custom to place an armful of straw on the door step for St. Bridget to knell on.
It is considered very unlucky for one to shave on a Sunday, as one will suffer from tooth-aches for the whole week.
If Saturdays moon comes seven years too soon, bad weather is expected to follow.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
