- Churning was in progress up to fifty years ago, until the creameries were invented. Up to that there was a churn in every farmers house and they used to make their own butter.
The homemade butter was a lot better and more wholesome than the butter made in the creamery. Long ago it was made three times a week in the houses, in summer and twice in winter.
Every one of the family used to take a turn at the churning and if a stranger came in during the churning he would help at the work.
