- Local Happenings
About 80 years ago the Bolands who lived in Meanus were burned in their own house. It happened that the "White Boys" as they were called, were going around robbing and plundering. The Bolands spied on them but quickly they found it out.
One night about twelve o'clock they surrounded the house and set fire to it. Two boys and a girl were burnt. They were living near a cross-road and from that on-wards it was called the burnt cross.
