- Travelling folk still come to my district and are doing so for the past 50 years. They are generally fairly poor and sell small articles such as floor-mats, saucepans, gallons, small statues etc. They make the gallons them-selves and buy the other articles in Limerick. They are generally welcome and nearly every-one buys some article from them and they also give them alms such as: bread, meat, or potatoes which they accept with great thanks. In former times two families of "Travellers" known as the McCarthys and Delahneys [sic] visited this district every week. They generally came for a fair or market and brought news from one part of the country to another.
