Spinning and weaving were carried on. Mrs Kennedy (R.I.P.) of Peterfield used spin the wool to make thread. Then she wove the thread to make frieze.
The frieze was then dyed. She used alder berries in making the dye. Mrs Moloney (R.I.P.) of Monsea used spin the wool and then knit stockings from the thread.
Patch-quilts were made from various pieces. They were lined with flour-bags. When being quilted they were laid upon a quilting frame. They were two long sticks at two sides. Those were laid upon a stand. Then you could have it whatever length or width you liked.
Peddicoats were made from Cashmere and flannel. Then they were quilted in diamonds.
