- A legend says that the Rock of Cashel
was a mouthful brought by Satan from
the Devils Bit Mountains in the north-
west of Templemore. It is situated in
one of the richest districts in Ireland.
It is the grandest and most ancient
building in Co. Tipperary. The ruins though
windowless and roofless and greatly
shattered still stand to almost their
original height. Across the south-east the
Galtees raise their peaks to about three
thousand feet high. Long ago it was the
capital of Munster and the seat of
the high-kings.
When St. Patrick, on his
mission to the south about the year
450 A.D. reached Cashel the ruling king
was Angus. It is said also that when
Patrick was baptizing Angus the spike
of the spear went through the kings(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
