Kathleens so fair and bright,
the spraying machine keeps off the blight.
In mid Autumn the potatoes are dug by means of a potato digger, a plough, and some times with a fork or spade. The children or younger people pick the potatoes into buckets, when they are picked, they are "choosed".- big ones in one pit, and small ones in another. Pit is covered with hay or furze or clay. Snowflakes and Champions grow best in our district. Potatoes were made into starch long ago:-
