- About thirty five years ago a sergeant of the old R.I.C. named Sheridan was transferred from Mayo to Mullagh in the County of Clare.
He was a very mischievous man and he was looking for promotion. He was not very long in Clare when he began his tricks.
He used to burn houses, knock walls and cut the tails off cattle and horses.
One day there was a fair in Mullagh and the Police were in duty. (On) On that particular morning a detective dressed like an old tramp came in to Mullagh from Scotland Yard.
He went around the street begging. He went into Dan O'Brien's bake house and Dan gave him a loaf of bread.
Then he went away back to the curates' house and sat down eating the bread.
Sergeant Sheridan and Constable O'Mahoney followed the tramp and arrested him.
