- The names of the fields in my father's farm in Derreen are as follows:- the Cill; the Leath-choill; the Rock Field and the Well Field.
The Cill is so called because there was a burying ground in it for babies who were not baptised. The remains of some of the graves are yet to be seen.
The Leath-choill is so called because half of the field was formerly covered with trees.
The Rock Field is so called because long ago the Danes left a huge rock in the centre of the field.
The Well Field is so called because there is a spring well in it.- Collector
