The halter is made of rope and it is round the cows horns and nose and from that it is tied to the chain on the post. A horse shoe is hung up in the inside of the byre for good luck and also St. Bridget's cross. The donkey is called Nelly. Always when they hear the donkey bray they say more rain is coming.
When calling the pigs they say - " here, gorrie, gorrie, gorrie. For a dog they whistle and for the goat the say here kiddy , kiddy , kiddy.
The cows are tethered in the fields as also are the goats. A cow that has horns has a bag hanging from the horns in front of their eyes. Horses are not tethered but some people put langles on them to keep them from straying too far away. The donkeys are langled or spancelled for the samme purpose. Clucking hens have one tied to a weight - a block of wood or something not too heavy
